Zambia (Africa) 2O1O *

Arguably my favorite picture I took in Zambia.

This is Precious. When I met her she was probably around 10 years old. She lived in the orphanage that I stayed in for two weeks during my trip. She was a really happy kid, but she did open up to me once and told me how she became orphaned. She never mentioned her dad but she told me that her mom passed away recently of AIDS. She said her mom told her "I don't know who's going to take care of you when I die". She also said that when her mom finally did pass she didn't eat and all she did was cry for weeks. But despite her unfortunate circumstances she was still happy all the time.

The beautiful kids walking from the orphanage to school.

These kids pictured above weren't living in the orphanage, they lived with their parents or family members in neighboring villages.

Another kid from a neighboring village with his little brother on his back. In this culture older siblings assume responsibility of the younger kids while their parents work.

Houses outside of the orphanage. These houses are typically seen in the country side. When you go to the capital city Lusaka, people mostly live in modern apartments.
